Last Feb I purchased a K7 gsxr 1000 and it was the first Suzook to come fitted with a 3 mode switch. After playing with the different modes for a few thousand miles in all sorts of riding conditions especially in the wet, I stopped using it and left it in the default position.

When in mode C the bike felt like an asthmatic SV650, mode B was down on HP until it hit 7k revs then reverted to full power. Mode A (aka full power) was far more usable throughout the whole rev range. Anyone giving a bike a full fistful in the wet or coming out of a tight bend should go and attend a riding skills course. So why would you need mode C ? We are talking about rocket ships on 2 wheels here not bikes for novices!! Skill and control come straight from the right wrist and I just feel that if you have the need to cut the power delivery in half then perhaps a less potent machine would be better?

I think that rather than using a gimmik switch to limit hp the better option would be to have gone for a proper traction control system that depending on the sensitivity it is set at will vastly reduce the chance of spinning the rear wheel up either in the wet or loose stuff or when exiting a corner.

Am I talking total shite or do you agree?

Incidentally since I have had my K8 Busa I have never once bothered to activate the mode switch........just can't see the point. Anyway I have thick skin so give it to me with both barrels if you think I'm off my head:cheers:

Got to say Crome, I did use C (pussy) mode at first in the wet, more for the fact because it was there - now with 450 miles on and I've got the feel of the bike, I don't bother now...

Yeah I know where your coming from, once youv'e played with it, seems rather pointless after that. Now if it were a turbo button

North Wales eh ? great riding country man, Ever been over to the little island across the pond ?

Oh yes....something every bike nut must do. And you can max your Busa out on the mountain section................... legallyhttp://www.busanation.com/forum/images/icons/icon6.gif

I think they put the A B C modes on due to gas prices going up and more and more people are buying bikes and dont know how to ride so they can cut the power down and pretend.

I figured this one out when riding my buddies new 07' 1k home the day he bought it (he didn't have a license).

C Mode: Makes the bike on level playing ground for Honda Commercials... Gixxer in C so the CBR can pass them and make it look good. Suzuki agreed since there was nothing to loose and they got paid by Honda to R&D this switch.

B Mode: Similar to C, other than now it can pass the Honda, but allows the Kawasaki to pass it after enough real estate has passed. Of course Zuk was paid from Kawi for this feature as well.

A Mode: When the commercial or "new ride reviews" are done, this is where the switch defaults to so I can reclaim any lost ground quick, fast and in a hurry.

At first I found it kinda interesting to play around with, but admittedly, I just leave it in Mode 'A' anymore. Suspect that most folks didn't buy the K8 for the "economy" aspects. :oh yeah:

That having been said, I am conducting an experiment with it to see it's impact on MPG for those times that gas stations are few and far between. This happens more than you might think in some areas of the American Desert West....

I believe its Zooks legal team in action. As bikes are becoming more powerful so are horrendous accidents with novice riders. Since no one seems to care if a 16 year old with no experience buys a 1.3 liter 175 hp superbike they are susceptible to suits.
many bikes now are restricted to lower power in lower gears and Kawi neutered the 14 at first with secondary butterfly ECU programming reducing power down low. Kawi owners complained and I understand that the 08 is much better off the bottom end.
Legal defense can say that three power modes are available to the rider and its a choice as to what is used. This also kept Busa buyers happy as nothing had to be changed to have full power on the stock bike. kawi owners found themselves removing the flies and remapping via PCIII to get this done.

I've only got about 200 miles on my new 'busa (snow & ice stop the riding). Because tires were new & roads cold, I tried "B" and "C". Since I bought the 'busa for it's on demand power, I'm pretty sure it's gonna be in default ("A") mode most of the time. If roads are wet, slippery, I'll control traction with my right wrist. I want to be control not some computer! Just my $.02!
