Okay, I did a search under this forum, but I may not have been using the correct "search string", so I want to apologize if this has already been covered (which I assume it has).
On the Gen I you had to buy a chip that you plugged into the harness that tricked the bike into thinking you were still in 5th gear, even though you were in 6th gear so that you travel at speeds great then 186mph.
I know the GEN 2 is governed too, but what is the fix? Who can I buy the parts from?
I think it was called the "TRE" mod???
Thank You,
Joe

Hi Joe, the gps mod is one way of going about it. You can also go with just a regual TRE which is basically a resistor that you plug into the wiring harness that makes the bike think it's always in 5th. Aslo there's the Gi Pro digigear indicator which has the TRE integrated and serves as a gear indicator as well.

yes but that wont work on an 08 GenII bro, with the new gear readout on the K8, it will only read as 5th gear even when you are in 6th. You need the Boostbysmith gps mod which goes to the gear selector sensor behind the clutch hub.:whistling: at least as how i have come to understand it? Greg may be able to clarify?

Hallo guys,
I have been to the dragbike.com site to research about the speed restrictor eliminator of "BoostbySmith" as you have mentioned it above.
It generally seems to work by tricking the ECU to "think" that the bike is still in 5th gear while it really is in 6th. This makes sure that the ECU functions well (timing, fuel injection mapping/etc) for all gears including 5th. But what about the 6th gear timing, mapping and any other stuff that the ECU does specifically when the bike is on 6th?
I guess they are gone, but i am not sure if and how much important they are.
I am not a mechanic...far from it! just thinking out loud here...what do you guys think? Has anyone tried this device on a 08 busa?
Thanks in advance!

Hi Mimic, ok dumbass question of the day - I see what you've written above but just need to clarify - I took my TRE off my K5 before selling the bike - I only really want to bypass the speed limiter for 1 event at Woodbridge this year, otherwise I ride on the road all year - Are you saying I can just plug in the old TRE into the wiring harness of my K8 as I did on my K5?
I would do this for the 1 event, then put it back as standard to have the gear position display showing correctly for road riding :thumbs up:
Cheers

I'm not sure about the Gen II to tell you the truth. But yes if you were to plug the TRE in you're gear indicator wouldn't show the right gears anymore. I had a video of the GPS mod done on a Bking and the gear indicator read 1,N,2,3,4,4,4 and pulled all the way to red line. For those who aren't aware the Bking is severly restricted and doesn't pull passed 9500 RPM stock in 6th.
I didn't realize the post was asking about the TRE mod for Gen II specifically. I thought he was inquiring about the TRE in general. My bad. on the Gen 2, I'd go with the GPS mod. It's like 90$ and you retain most of your gear indicator functionality so you're ok.
I'm assuming the TRE would work as well since GI pro A/TRE site shows the same model number for the unit for the hayabusa 99-08

So from what I deduce form the video, it confirms my original assumption that the TRE is the same since the Gi PRO A/TRE is the same model for all busas.
so you're TRE should work fine on your 08 busa. I'd ask Richards at RCC to be 100% certain but logically it's all the same since the GiPRO a/TRE is the same model number and the 08 gear indicator is constantly showing 5

Sorry, but can someone clarify?
Is it just me, but the K8 already has a gear read out? why the GI pro then? because of the GPS(gear position sensor) the dash will read out 6th and the GI PRO will read out 5th?:umm: do i understand this right with the K8's:head meets wall: lol

The Gi PRO A/TRE is not the same thing as the GPS Mod
The Gi PRO A/TRE is a digital gear indicator with a TRE integrated into it. It reads the gear before it applies the TRE to the circuit so you have preper gear reading with a TRE. Further, it's programmable to fool the bike into thinking it's always in 4th or 5th or 6th vs a regular TRE which always makes it think it's in 5th.
The video above doesn't have a gps mod. Just the Gi pro. With the GPS mod it shows 1, N, 2, 3, 4, 4, 4
Now the Video below is the bking with the GPS mod. On the Busa I think it's programmed for 5th gear so you'de get 1, N, 2, 3, 4, 5, 5
Only Trouble with the GPS mod is that you have to remove the clutch basket to do it whereas the GI pro or stand alone TRE is plug and play under the tank.

So it looks like there is an actual TRE that will fit the 08's without having to go into the clutch as you would with Schnitz Racing http://www.hayabusazone.com/tre.htmlHmmmmmmm

Call me picky But I would quite like the OEM gear indicator to read 6th when I'm in 6th. Why can't the Bikes ECU be hacked to remove the limiter?

My K8 will read 6 while in 6, because im not touching it or putting a TRE on. IMO the K8 doesnt need a TRE, I will keep it in C mode also and not run a de-tuned busa:roll eyes:
The K8 is fast enough stock out of the crate, i will mod the exhaust and USB and I will mod it visually up to my liking, im into looks then performance, call me superfiscial:cheers: my .02 cents and I want my change, i need to buy upgrades for my K8 on the way:thumbs up:-Duane

So here is my thinking. I am going to race in the Texas Mile...I just need something temporarily to override the Timing Retard Eliminator so just in case I actually go over 186mph.
After the race, I will pull the TRE off. This saves me from using the "BoostbySmith" unit and tearing down the clutch. :oh yeah: And this way, I can have my stock gearing indicator back! Sweet!!!!

Tybalt,
Even the Gen I Busa was 'Fast enough' but I found that the TRE made the performance in the bottom three gears much crisper and made it an easier lazy ride especially with a pilion and full touring kit on board. I am not interested in exceeding 186mph (well maybe once just for the devil of it :-) ). But I am interested in eaking every bit of the power lower down. The main reason I want the indicator to read 6th when in 6th is because I am always attempting to change up into a non-existant 7th. (could do with an overdrive come to think of it.

That's exactly what I want a basic TRE for - if I was racing regularly then the clutch strip down would be worthwhile, but I just want a plug and play unit for 1 or 2 events a year. :thumbs up:

 on my GenI , I had the same issue, i was always reaching for that 7th gear:head meets wall: I did put a GI PRO, now with the K8 has the gear read-out and shift light to eliminate me from grabbing a 7th gear:banana:

Actually I know on the Gen1 bikes mapping through the ECU are the same for 5th and 6th gear, only differance being Suzuki put a rev limiter on 6th Gear. So by doing the Boost-By-Smith GPS mod on Gen1 makes the computer see 1-N-2-3-4-5-5. So same map but no limiter in 6th.

I went to a local event today and had a free dyno of my 08 and was not too happy with the results.
Question (sorry if this is a tread jack) I think the gps version is the best but I know the guys are my dealer would void my warranty in a heart beat if I had any issues and they say it
. Is the TRE really easy to install and remove without a trace? just for dyno days Thanks all.

TRE - plugs into the harness and removes the speed restriction by sending the bike an "I'm in 5th gear" signal. On the Gen II, the gear indicator will read 5 all the time.
GPS will show 1N23455
