Ahem, sorry SteveO - its a piss easy job mate - no removal of panels needed....

Take off the rear seat and look over to the left side of the tray where the tool kit holder is, pull the edge of the plastic aside and you'll see a cable (grey/black) with a small white bayonet fitting @ 1 1/2" long + unclip it.

Undo the 4 bolts on the undertray and remove the most rearward of the push pin clips holding the rear undertray to the lower rear seat unit, then pull out the undertray along with the wire you disconnected.

I then got 2 L - shaped brackets from B+Q and utilised the rear most bolt holes to fit them to, then mounted the number plate to them. I also bought some small led's to illuminate the no plate - £3.00 off Fleabay.

Didn't have time for pictures - I will post some if anyone wants?

SteveO - PM me if you want to know more - or call my moby

Well, it's not so much you *need* to do this, it's just that it makes life a whole lot easier to undo this 2-pin connector and the cable tie that retains it (as you have apparently found out!)

Removing the rear cowling also makes it easier to remove the brackets holding the red reflectors (though I am unsure if you Euro dudes even have these red reflectors back there like we do here under the direction of our DOT nanny.)

I took a bunch of photos when I removed the rear cowling, I'll try to find them and post up later today.

Her ya go with what to look for to remove the undertail...

in picture 1 press the left side, most rearward centre pin + the the clip drops out of the seat unit.

http://www.busanation.com/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=1401&d=1201084911

Picture 2 - remove the rear seat pad or hump, then looking from the top, pull aside the plastic undertray and you'll see the white 1 1/2 inch connector which is for the rear number plate light.
Unclip it first then undo the 4 bolts which hold on the fender unit.

http://www.busanation.com/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=1402&d=1201084911

Pull aside (@ an inch) the underside sear seat unit where you undid the first push-pin clip and then pull undertail fender unit away from the bike along with the wire you undid.

I then got some LED's from Fleabay and cut the 2 wires from the original tail light to utilise the bayonet clip.

Picture 3 - 2 x L - shaped brackets now hold the number plate on - £2.50 from the local hardware store...... much neater than the old chunk of black plastic...

I did this MOD last night, it wasn't that bad, make sure you read all the hints on here, knowing to undo that bayonet clip is priceless. You really do have to remove the tail section to get the red reflectors off, if you don't there is no way to hold the nuts on the underside, the screws will just spin.

Thanks for all the good advice fellas, my bike looks like a million dollars now!!!

Of course the Yoshi Carbon Slip-ons didn't hurt either. http://i76.photobucket.com/albums/j37/1Wildturkey/suzi8.jpg http://i76.photobucket.com/albums/j37/1Wildturkey/suzi5.jpg

To remove your red reflectors all you need to do is remove your rear turn signal lights. Once removed you can reach in and get to the nut which is on the back side of each bolt. One one side the nut stayed in place and I was able to just rethread the bolt. Now I do have small hands, but I think there is plenty of room for anyone to feel with your fingures and get a wrench in there to hold the bolt.

I just bought the fender works kit. Came with a nice small stainless plate holder and an LED light kit with wire harness and all stainless hardware. $50.00

You must have midget hands, because I just tried this and couldn't squeeze my hands in far enough to even touch them with my finger tip! Arrg... very frustrated...:head meets wall:

I just attempted to pull the two wire harness but I forgot about undoing the aft left black plastic push on pin you show in the first picture.
The harness just isn't moving. I just want to check with you that that's all I have to undo in order to slide the wires out. I've removed the rear left turn signal to see what I'm doing and of course the two wire connector was disconnected at the time, but it won't move. It seems to me that the harness is being pinched by the bodywork. Is that all I need to do?

Thanks!

The reason the harness isnt moving is because it has a black tie-strap zip tie to the sub frame, you have to clip it off to get the slack to dis-conect the tail light connector:smoke: to get a clean look at this and access to removing the zip tie is had to remove the complete rear cowl off.

I ended up taking the whole rear cowl off which made it easy to connect the wires up the led - i left enough cable to put it all back on if necessary, as you say Tybalt theres a cable tie on the back left hand side, cowl went back on pretty easy - only downer was loosing one of the screws from the seat hump cushion pads - still have nt found it !!

It looks like I'll have to take the whole thing off after all.
There is a zip tie close to the connector, but I had no problems working around that and disconnecting the wiring.
The problem I'm having is closer to the junction where the wire runs under the tail light on the left hand side, in that space that can't be seen with a flashlight, either from below or from the top looking in, things just aren't moving
This'll have to be next weekend's project!

Thanks for the fast reply!

This is an update on my comments earlier on (above) in view of the confusion this may have caused.

You do not have to remove the rear fairing to disconnect the license plate light wire harness after all. The zip tye that everybody before me has been speaking about is not the one near the connector (you can see this white two wire connector in one of the pictures posted earlier on which shows you where to disconnect it and a zip tye near it) but in that hidden area between what you see when you remove the rear left turn signal and look in and where the license plate light wire harness goes in immediately after leaving the tail light housing. An yes, by gently pulling down on the existing undertail in the area where you have just unbolted all four bolts retaining the plastic tail light housing and "mud" guard in one assembly, you can see that zip tye, reach in and cut it off. After that it's a piece of cake.

Sorry for the confusion.

Cheers,
