Hey gang,
Her old heart was fine...just needed a boost!! My winter mods begin...
1441cc 2mm stroker kit, billet clutch basket, and I think you can make out everything else. Just have to get the drag strip open now....:whistling:
Cheers,
Tony

I would love to Ken...but I am out of town every week, and my mechanic is building it. I did ask him to take pics along the way though. Should be ready to break in on the dyno by the end of the month, and build the two maps for it. I will have lots of video on that day.

Thanks guys...
one thing I forgot to mention. We weighed 1 stock rod, then we weighed 1 of the Carrillo rods....2.2 oz difference. Even though the Carrillo's are WAY beefier, they are 2.2 oz lighter. So for 4 rods I am losing a 1/2 a pound of spinning weight. SHeeeaaaat
Oh and the crank is a new 2mm stroker crank from the Gen II's. The papers from APE showed it was dynamically balanced at 14000rpm to .03 of a gram. :surprise:

Doing anything to the gearbox?

Hey Ken
Were putting in the high strength tool steel shift rods. As for the tranny, nothing. My mechanic has it apart and said it looks perfect, and he said the stock trannys are good up to about 250hp. So cross the fingers...didnt have another $5000 to drop on straight cut gears, etc.

I often read about 24V starting two batteries systems on Busas with larger builds. Have you giving any consideration to that aspect?
You thoughts are greatly appreciated as I would like to go this route myself at some point.

I may have to go that route with the batteries. It all depends on what your compression ratio is going to be. Mine will be right around 14:1, so I have a funny feeling I will have to drop a little more $$$ and pick up the extra battery and harness from Schnitz or Muzzys.
My mechanic said building an engine like this is the most reliable. Fans and giggle gas are great....but alot of dickin around. I want to relax when I get back to the pits....not have to throw a data logger on to see what my engine is doing.

Tony

:jerkit:Christ that is a nice set of parts. Is that a kit you can purchase or did you have to do some homework on what you needed?
toastman
02-14-2010, 05:05 PM
Hey Vigor
Its pretty much this kit...
http://www.hayabusazone.com/enginekits.html
Then we added the Carrillo rods, 1 piece stainless +1mm valves, bronze valve guides(w/stock retainers as we heard the titaniums are ovaling). Also added the billet clutch basket, tool steel shift rods, larger oil pump gear, high pressure oil switch...then the heads being ported, 5 angle valve grind, and shaving the head the get the 14:1 compression.

Tony

What would you recommend to build a reliable 1441 street motor that runs on pump gas and has a focus on bottom and mid range torque?

For the $5000 canadian Ken, this would be your kit as well. You might not want as high as a compression ratio as we have gone. Maybe 13.5:1. But this kit is super reliable. My mechanic/tuner said he will build the map to run on pump gas, as well as U4.2 race fuel. But you can run pump fuel all day long in it. I think you would be very happy with the bottom end torque the way it is. You could run 4 tall velocity stacks I guess to gain a little more.
We will have it built and on the dyno in a couple of weeks, so I will post the Factory Pro dyno results then.
Cheers,
Tony

Do you think a lower compression would negate the neede for a second battery?
The factory pro will give you a more accurate result than a DynoJet that's for sure!

It would definatly be easier on the battery. We are trying the 14 amp battery first to see if it performs. If not then...well a couple more $100 out of the pocket for the extra battery setup.
Its funny because the Dyno Jet dyno said my hp was 164...the factory pro was 140ish...mechanic said the dyno jets are inflated to make you feel good. :umm:

Your mechanic is correct. Mine with just cans dynoed at 148 on a super flow dyno.

The above links are to scans of an older Sports Car International magazine interview where the inventor of the "dynojet" Mark Dobeck admits to using a fudge factor when first developing the dynojet.
If you want to read it for yourself, download scans 0002 and 0003. the information starts with heading "Zen of Inertia" and is continued on the next page.
it's amazing how many gen1 owners have drunk the dynojet koolaid and think their bike makes 165+ stock.

UPDATES...just for Ken...lol
Any whooo...
After getting the fricken run around from Goodson Automotive out of the States with our 5mm valve reamer, it finally arrived 3 weeks late!!
So in the mean time my mechanic built up the bottom end. +2mm Gen 2 stroker crank, carillo pro H beam rods, high volume oil pump gear, high pressure oil switch. Head work to be completed in the next couple of days, and then hopefully getting the engine back in on Friday. Then dyno dyno dyno.....
Couple of pics....

Tony

couldn't help but to notice that it almost appears that the Busa Engine fires 2 pistons at once during the fireing order. Is this actually so??? or are they just timed very closely?
