View Full Version : How to oil-cool a turbo bike

Here are some pics of the mod that I did to my Prostreet-turbo-showbike build (say that 2 times fast!!!!). Because of the turbosystem, which is an old RCC stage 1, the factory oil cooler had to be removed. I still wanted to run an oil cooler so I looked up a British Company that makes a water cooled oil cooler, which hooks up directly to your water cooling system. Here are the pics of the cooler and the custom built oil lines that I have made out of a set of Muzzy's oil-cooler by-pass plates and AeroQuip's fitting and SS lines. The lines are being custom built by me, and I will post up additonal pics when done.

Well I got in my Earl's oil line spacers...progress is sometimes slow but steady...enjoy the pics. The proper end fittings for my Oil cooler finaly came in, so with any luck I should be able to mock it up and finish my oil lines soon.

Had some time today to rebuild the oil cooler with the proper size fittings for the water lines, also finished up one of the oil lines and test fit the location of my fuel pump and filter in the tail section. My injectors have also returned from a fresh cleaning at MPS they are now in place in the fuel rail, got my new blue turbo up-pipe connecting hose (matches the water lines perfectly), tighened up the air filter(plenty of clearance for the water lines...good thing), and test fited the radiator. Connected my fitting for a fuel pressure read-out to the inside of the FMU (as per RCC's instruction), but I am going to have to get a 45degree angled fitting to clear properly as you can see its close to the frame! Enjoy the pics!

This week has been a good week...got my clutch cover for my B-king finished (lil' baby steps modding that bike...lol), also finished up running the oil lines for my new oil cooler that just received a fresh show polish, polished the up-pipe & pleunum for the turbo, which are soon to be going out for a dose of transparent powdercoating, and my Emtes mechanical scaveng pump has arrived & is currently waiting on my starter gear cover to return from chrome . Won't be making much progress for about another week as I am currently waiting on the rest of my fuel fittings to come in...so stay tuned!!!!

Great bike and project ... I'm jealous :oh yeah:
Only one question buddy. If you would like to chrome your entire bike why would you paint engine on white ??!!!
It might be a silly question for you but cracking my head hehe :smoke:

The entire bike isn't chrome...there are parts that will be candy chromed either gold or blue...these pics are of the bike in the mock up stages. My Emtes pump just arrived, and my clear clutch covers have returned from chrome.
It is my plan to display the bike at the shows with one side fairing removed probably the right side...so as to show al the trick components. I also plan to have the bike profesionaly photographed less the fairings to show all the unseen goodies.

I would recomend that you just save up and purchase one from a reputable manufacturer...but if not, I have alot of the parts that make up the basic stage one kit I would be willing to give up for a small cost. All you would need is the headers, turbo, plenum, and up pipe.

This is a message to the McCoys for inspiring me to go a notch beyond...thanks guys, you were all great to met in person. Now on to my post....I submitted it under the wrong topic here goes...
Sorry I been out of pocket, but my internet went down over the holydays...anyhow a few parts just got fhinised getting translucent powdercoated. My NOS bottle, clutch pressure plate, starter gear cover that will be attached to my mechanical scavenge pump, and last but not least my a-la-McCoys' inspiration turbo intake plenum, which I think came out so killer that I may just do this to a few other parts on the motor like my turbo up-pipe, oil pan, and engine breather that I just got for Xmass (thank you Santa, I've only been a lil naughty this year!!!) I have to give great props to Ma-boy, friend, and builder, Mike at Down South Kustoms for making it all come together, enjoy his work fellas and chicklets!

Just for the record the starter gear cover is made out of Cast Titanium...little did we know until I stripped it of the factory paint. Mike managed to still get it highly polished before it was trans-coated!!!! Didn't know it was even possible til now. He also did the great work of polishing my Turbo Plenum, which once looked like junk, had been welded to repair some old fools half-arse modding, sand-blaseted, etc...thanks again man!!!! In the pics you can see where we removed someones JB welded 5 injector mod that was done to fix a lack of fueling from trying to overboost a motor...not my recomendation at all and a poorly executed one, who JB welds a $3000-4000 turbo system????

Finaly had a few days off from the 20+ hour days of MardiGrass, and I managed to make some progress on the bike!!! While I have been bussy working my tail off some of my parts have been finished receiving a fresh PowderCoating...had the plenum done in a candy blue and the NOS bottle & clutch pressure plate done in gold to match my rims...they came out realy nice.
Enjoy the pics y'all!

I tried not to overdue the chrome, that is why I had some of the chrome and polished parts powdercoated with transparent candy colors. The pics are nice, but don't do these parts justice...they realy look like colored chrome. My Bking is more of an "Anti-bling" bike. This is my first attempt at a show bike and the custom parts can get addictive, thanks for the compliment on the turbo system. It was well thought out and alot of consideration was put into making it extremely reliable and well performing for everyday street riding. :rocket bike:

Been off line for a bit, but I'm still plugging along on my build...just finished adding a billet clutch basket, complete with new back gear, and the proper welding work to make the clutch components stronger. The latest news is that my oil sump for turbo is currently being fabbed up. It is comming along nicely. The raw aluminum one is the beggining stages of the sump, took some thick aluminum box tube, cut it to size, and had the ends welded closed with the welds finished off so it would look nicely built. Next up is to have my fittings for the oil line to the mechanical scavenge pump welded on.
The pics of the kinda raw looking sumps are an example of where this part will go. One guy created a sump out of a Maglite flashlight, creative! When mine is finished I plan to polish and powdercoat it for a nice look. Enjoy the pics, I'll keep you guys posted on the updates.
