I hear ya! it seems that every time I go out for a ride, I need to hit 180 - 200 (km) everytime. Here in Canada, 50 over gets your bike impounded road side and a max of 10000 fine. That's a real bumber! You got to pick your roads.

Yes...this is a problem i have myself, its addictive!
But choose your roads, here in iceland the fines for speeding are huge.
But im lucky i have my brother to ride with , he has a 1200 ninja and he rides faster than me, but thats just cause he has been riding like this longer than i have. But please pick your roads, for your own safety as well as others.
ride safe, have fun.

I can't afford the tickets nor the insurance if it goes up so I've never really ridden too fast nor do I drive fast all the time. There are times and places to speed where you can get away with it and do it safely and the chances of getting a ticket are slim to none, but to ride fast all the time is just asking for it. It could also be that I've had my motorcycle license for ~25 years too.

I know exactly what you mean chrispy. Many years ago I was a young daredevil....always ridin' fast or on one wheel & I never wore any gear. It caught up to me eventually. Now I'm more like the others have already said......there's a time & place for it. Ya gotta think about that little guy in your avatar too. :oh yeah:
This was me after one of my fast rides 16 years ago....it's the ride that really changed my riding habits:

Ouch ! That must have hurt big time.. I have had bitumen burns but they look close to skin graft material...
Back to the point in question.. I think that speed is part of the mystique of a motorcycle, we ride the machine, we lean with the machine, our every move is mirrored by the machine, but our brain remains ours. Ask a Judge if there is such a thing as speeding responsibly and he will lock you up. Ask a motorcyclist and he will say
" Of course ! "
Anyone with a vehicle be it 2,3,4 or more wheels that is their passion will always want to drive it to the best of its ability...in most cases the ability of the vehicle far outweighs the ability of the rider, so pick your time and place.
Chrispy it is all well and good to speed every time you are on the bike but it does not have to be you who makes the mistake.. We are not here to preach and tell you how fast to ride, what are speed limits for etc..But we would like to see you here in 10 years time.. I think that what Warputer says is right, we were all young once and youth is invincible. In the mind of said youth. Speeding in traffic ?? Not sure if I would be doing 100/150 ( is that mph or kmh ) unless the traffic was doing at least 100 or so. Find a friend to hook into the wide open spaces with and open it up out there, and even so keep a good eye out. I have lost 3 friends this year and the last one was in your back yard. He had ridden millions of miles and while doing the ride of his dreams across the US hit a deer. Gone.Just like that.
Speed is something we deal with every day and there is not one of us who doesn't. But not all the time and everywhere. Sorry if this reads like a lecture, not meant to be one, but I am as passionate about living as I am of riding. Speed safely.:thumbs up:

 BTW. What are the speed limits in the US and Canada ?? Over here in Oz we used to have an open limit in the Northern Territory ( but u had to prove to the cops that 200mph was safe at the time) which has been rescinded to 120kmh and their road toll increased... and all the rest have 100 or 110 kmh... And we have a demerit points system for our licence which reaaallly sucks....

 BTW. What are the speed limits in the US and Canada ??
In most of the US cities 90 kmh/55 mph or less. Outside the city limits it is around 110 kmh/70 mph.

Yeah I had that problem. Two crashes, many tickets, a judge taking a personal interest in punishing me, and losing my license for a year cured me of that.
It's a pain in the a$$ to load three kids with strollers diaper bags, and your own crap on public transportation getting around town.
Now I only ride fast on the track.

However fun it may be, pick your time and place wisely. 100 is not too bad, but you get on up to 150-160 mph, and all the time...just not a real good idea on public roads. I do hit 150-160 once in a great while on roads i know well, that are desolate w/ very few to no other vehicles. It's a rush and I love it. I like being down behind the wind screen at 160. It's as if I'm in my own little world for those few moments and nothing else matters. My advice though is slow down on doing that all the time cause what can happen will happen. And I agree 100%... gotta think about the little guy in your avatar . Just be safe and enjoy your ride. Oh...and speeding tickets are no fun either. I have heard as well that anything over 100 makes you subject to having your license pulled and your bike towed. I've never actually looked that up myself, just heard it several times.

You're entitled to your opinion but that's not the same thing.
Cancer is a disease. You have a choice to not ride like a retard. Unless you are retarded.

Crispy, I don't believe that for a second, you're asking about it therefore you're not (retarded), besides, it's not nice to use this word too loosly, some among us may have children that are challanged. I should clarify my original remarks. I DO like to ride fast when I can with a certain degree of comfort that depends upon a few things. I know the road really well, the time of day and the day itself is important, I always gear up properly as well and my ride is always in tip top shape. Be careful out there man! looks like you're responsible for more then just yourself, you want to be around long enough to see life unfold. I'm 46 thus the handle "oldmanmelo", I catch myself performing stupidly from time to time and I curb myself back. Lately I've been making a point of going out for rides and concentrate on maintaining a reasonable speed above the posted limit. for example, in Canada most roads are, say, 80 kph, I'll ride them at around 95, our hwys are 100, I'll do 115. Way less stressful then always watch your back, sides, front, and the air for the long arm of the law.
Good Riding!

relax man, I've never bin one to follow the crowd or go with the flow. Like I said, I'm 46 and sometimes the busa scares the crap out me when I'm goin for my personal best. Let's face I, I don't have the quick reaction times and response that someone half my age or in their early 30's do. All I was tryin to say is BE VERY CAREFUL out there when you too are goin for your personal best. Don't get hurt, don't get caught.....that's all. And yes, I do like ridin fast...alot.
......I think that if I had a child that was challanged, I'd use the word retard differently...what do you think?

lets get real guys! its all about planning routes and making use of good bike roads. oh and by the way a gen1 busa rider got filmed at 120mph in England with his 14 year old son on the back and got 6 months in prison. The judge should have been SHOT!

i do the same thing. i go out with every intention of doing the speed limit but its hard. the busa is the only bike that i have ever ridin that rides like a cadilac at 180mph! you get down on the tank and the faster you go, the better life seems to get. its a viseral experance. the tunnel vision kick in...and everything else goes away. PERFECT!:thumbs up:

speed is all a matter of perception. when im talking to cagers and say something to the effect of i was cruising along at 110 mph they call that speeding i dont consider it speeding untill i have to get behind the screen know what i mean?

I know how addictive that speeding is. I try to make an effort to do the speed limit before I throw a leg. If I do not tell myself to before I get on, I find myself doing the usual "safe speeding". I have a Commercial Drivers License and my livelihood depends on my driving record. I still find it very seductive and keep an eye out for the man in the funny hat. Be good, and be safe. If you can't be good, then don't get caught!! :oh yeah:

I stake out my roads over a few weeks, take note of when the man is around and where, no over pass bridges, no over the hills, no bends in the road and then I'm good to go, all it takes is a few secounds and you're in the 275kmh zone and a few seconds later your back to earth at 110. EXCILERATING!!
