My best friend just had his GSXR 1000 engine start knocking. A performance shop in NC built the engine and now it's back in nc. He has two options. Put it back the way it was for 2500 or move up the a 3 mil. kit whatever that is for 5000 bucks. 190 rwh now and 210 rwh after the 3 mil kit. They are saying the last clutch that went out cloged the oil pickup screen and starved the crank for oil. Good tip if you have a clutch replaced drop the pan and clean the pickup screen. I think he is going with the 2500 dollar job. It was very strong before to the point traction was a serious problem. More HP would make more of a problem.

Thanks for the tip Chip !

My buddy got his 1000 back this weekend after 3500 bucks. New crank and rod bearing. Dyno work shows 184 hp. If he has 184 I must have 164. I can't keep up after first gear. That is the fastest 1000 I have ever seen. Time to go back to the track and see whats what.

Sounds like he needs to find another shop to work on his bike....

We rode this weekend and I raced that 1000 about 6 times all with the same results. From a dead stop I left him and at the end of second gear he came by me at least 10 mph faster. I know his bike is lighter but damn. I'm running 9.50s at the track he has to be in the low low 9s or even 8s. Running from a roll is a waste of time. Lee did a lot of dyno work and he was told it made more torque then before. What about droping the gear on my bike?

It's not going to help, he's got more power and lighter weight. Did you ever get your MPH figured out, weren't you the one trapping 145 or something low....?
You need to do the mods he has and then wave by bye to him... ;)

Yea thats me. 145 was the best I could do in the 1/4. I'm not a big guy at 175 and I was laying down as low as I could get. My bike has never been dyno tuned or had a power commander installed. It's stock with full exhaust system. I want to get a race air filter and take it to Lees to get dyno work. Even if it makes 190 like lee said he still is a lot lighter. I don't want to do engine work yet. I think it has more in it stock.

This is the bad ass 1000. The only bike I can't out run.

So you essentially have minimal mods and ZERO tuning but expect to keep up with a fully worked 1000 with ALL the tricks....? :umm:
No wonder you are having trouble keeping up with the guy... :head meets wall:

So what would you suggest? I want to keep the engine stock. No NOS.

I'd start with a PC or Bazzaz tuner unless you want to flash the ECU. Check out my build thread for basic mods and then MOST importantly GET A FULL TUNE done at Lee's! Depending on your weight, you should be 9.0's at 152+ (if you can ride).
Your ultimate goal should be 8.99 @ 150+ with a stock motor on a Gen-II... ;)
Check out Brock's build thread if all else fails....

Thanks for the info. What gear do you go through the lights at the dragstrip? I'm in 4th. Does that sound right?

I wouldn't mess with the gearing until you get a tune and find that MPH. You are trapping 5+mph LOWER than you should, that's a LOT of power missing somewhere?!?! Have you tried raising your shift RPM...?

To tell you the truth I'm not sure what RPM I shift at. I hit the limiter sometimes in first but I ride it like a dirt bike shifting when it quits pulling. I'm going to have Lee install a shift light on the front that is very bright like my friend bike. You can't miss it. I would love a airshifter but will wait to see how much when I get there.

don't worry even if you do the mods you won't beat the 1k the kit your buddy has gives him as much torque and hp as an 08 busa and its still over 100lbs litter do the math . Also you can't ride worth a shit so thats another negative. If you can find someone that can ride and let them make a pass you might find you bike will mph like everone elses also it might et like everyone else.

How do you know how well I can or can't ride. Every Hayabusa I have raced I have beat. This is the only bike to beat me. I don't think my riding ability has anything to do with the MPH on the other end. I'm sure you could make it run 160 mph in the 1/4. or do you even ride.

He might get close in peak power but he won't have the torque of the BUSA without big bore and/or nitrous. It ain't gonna happen on stock bore stroke N/A head/cam package 1k....

the 1k is about 100lbs lighter like everyone says and if is making 184 hp then you wont outrun him on a stock busa, peroid. I'm not saying it's not possible but the average rider wont.... I think your speed is a hair low but not that bad from what I seen at the track.
You need to shift before you hit the rev limiter, hitting your limiter will slow you down big time. I always like to reverse my shifting on my bikes that dont have a airshifter I find it much easier to shift quicker with one.

you said "To tell you the truth I'm not sure what RPM I shift at"
If your hitting the rev limitterand don't know were your shifting at then you can't ride. a 184 hp 1k is a bad ass bike and even if you could ride you would be hard pressed to beat one of those with a good rider on board. Also there is no stock busa genI or genII going to run 160 mph listen to some of the other guys on this board they will tell you some good stuff to do. I'm also sorry the other guys on busa's let you win maybe the only one in your area that can ride is the guy on the 1k. You might want to let him ride your bike and see what it will run.
Stop getting angry and start listening dave3.4 (http://www.busanation.com/forum/member.php?u=4001) and got busa gave you excellent advice take it .

If you can read I said sometimes I hit the rev limiter in first. at the drag strip I only hit it once but on the street I hit it when the tire starts to spin at the top of first gear. Watching the tac. is not my idea of riding. Things are happening too fast not to be looking where you are going. I need a good shift light to help see the shift points. And the guy with the 1000 can't beat me out the hole he just has more power the me. I have a best time of 1.5 60ft. Not bad for someone who can't ride.

1.5 is great not being able to watch the tack is not. also the new bikes have a shit light have you tried to use it. I did but it sucked because of where its located also if the bike starts to spin at the top of first you need to play with your suspention it will stop the bike from doing that or either your getting out of the grove. Still a 1k setup like your budies is hard to beat.

You are right the light is in a bad location. I can't see it in the day light. I want to have a new one installed on the windscreen. It only spins on the street. Its a wheelie king at the track. I really have to slip the clutch to keep the front down through first gear.

Not sure what length you guys are, but a piped, mapped lowered 08+ Busa should be able to hit 150 with your weight. 145 ain't going to cut it. The stock wheelbase Busa is much easier to ride than a stock wheelbase 1000. Once you add a bit of stability to a 1000 they can go pretty good. Need more details?

You guys are doing some serious numbers ...what do u pay to get the busa dynoed...i mapped my power commander to my 4-2-1 exhaust and i dont think its a perfect fit

My bike has the stock ecu. Maybe that is why it will only run 145 in the 1/4. Price for dyno at Lee's in nc is about 300.00. My dealer wants 600.00 due to he wants to install a power commander but lee said he could write over the stock ecu. Just make sure they know what they are doing.
