OK I have search the forums and not found any answers. For normal street riding what is the best sprocket change to do? Front? Rear? up or down in tooth size? I dont do any drag racing or track days, no top speed runs down the NJ Turn Pike. Mainly would be for red light to red light fun. Any sugestins?

I just did a 16 on the front. If you like to go light to light on the back tire this is the one for you. The gen 2 comes unglued with this sprocket!!!

And Bellabusa will be more than willing to share nut diameters, torque values and post up with a DIY FAQ.

As Bella said...for a boost in "acceleration" you can take away a tooth on the front sprocket or you can add teeth to the rear.....if I remember correctly : -1 on the front would be the same effect as adding 2 to the rear. Keep in mind that either of these moves will effect gas mileage, take some off of the bikes top speed and throw off the accuracy on your speedometer.

:banana:I would go two up on rear. have done that for all my sportbikes. you can still use your org chain as well. Changes ratio about 9%. Aftermarket sprockets just look nicer as well IMO.

Do you usually get the steel or aluminum sprockets ?

Two down on the front IMO is to much for a Gen-II. You already have a 43 rear from the factory so that's a BIG drop. I would start with a 17 first and see what you think. On a Gen-I a 16 would be great but I wouldn't on a Gen-II....
Gen-I = 17/40
Gen-II = 18/43
If you are going to drag a lot this setup may be great but for a daily rider/weekend warrior I won't do it personally...

Thanks for the input. A local shop I was looking in only had 14, 15, 16 for front and 42, 44 for the rear.

Don't forget Gen-I and Gen-II sprockets are different and aren't interchangeable...

@Got-Busa
What I know, the Gen-I and Gen-II front sprockets are not different, are you shure?

I'm positive, the sprockets will NOT interchange between the 99-07 and 08+. The output shaft is larger on the Gen-II so the Gen-I sprockets won't fit. The Gen-II rear sprocket is different also but it is the same as a GSXR1K....

I just wanted to say thanks for all the input.:not worthy: I put on a Vortex 45th and wow what a differance. Made a huge differance in acceleration and actually hepled with the speedo error. I was 10 MPH fast stock and 6 MPH fast now. I Have a XTRE AND SPEEDO HEALER on order to get that speedo dialed in.

I took off my 16 tooth front sprocket tonite. I only ran it for about 30 miles and decided I like it better stock. It was great for burning rubber but I didnt like having to change gears so quick.
