Ok. Is it worth it? If I get caught out in the rain, am I gonna suck a lot of water into the filter?

Post your experiance with this mod. Seriously considering buying it, but don't want WORTHLESS JUNK on my bike.

Which ram air kit? Do you mean the scoops that attach to the front of the bike? Or snorkles from Kent at Airtech?

Which bike?

Ahhh those are called "power scoops". There is a lot of debate online about if the Gen I Busa nose pushes air out and around the snorkel openings at high speed. The power scoops are supposed to protrude out there and "catch" that air thus pressurizing the airbox more. As I said, there is debate around this subject.

Personally, I feel the air drag at high speeds would negate any effect of putting a big ol' scoop out there. There is a reason NACA ducts were invented and there's a reason streamliners don't have big ol' hood scoops out there. This is speaking for the Top Speed segment.

Drag racing might be different. My drag car has a big ol' hood scoop on it but I'm only running 1/4 mile. In Top Speed, aero is king. The drag required to push a car/bike through the air goes up by the square so you end up having to create ungoshly amounts of power to overcome just a little aero drag.

A better bet if you were looking for a pony or two would be to remove your snorkles from the inside and seal them up. Also seal up where the snorkles meet the frame and airbox. If you haven't done this, you're not going to take advantage of those scoops anyway.

Yes, the scoops will pull in more water. Your airbox has a hole in the bottom of it just over the spark plug area where this water flows out (if you haven't sealed it up).

Regarding snorkles - Kent Riches of Airtech sells replacement snorkles made of fiberglass that are lighter and better flowing than the stockers. This means more flow with no increase in aero drag. The downside is interference with the turnsignals. Probably a deal breaker for a street bike but they work on mine.

Thanks for the info. I am riding just to ride. I don't go to the drag strip, or doing TOP speed runs. I love to just RIDE. Power on demand is crusial for me. When I want the bike to get up and move I want the power to do it. Hence the reason I want some things for a little more HP. Not looking for UN-GODLY HP, but things that aren't deathly expensive and I can pick up a quick 2-10 hp.

Quick and easy 2-10HP pickup:

1 - Get a Pipercross race filter from Greg at Hyperbike Performance Centers
2 - mod the airbox (cut out the flapper)
3 - Install Iridium plugs (probably more to make you feel better than for any performance gain but fresh plugs don't hurt)
4 - Seal up your airbox and snorkels
5 - introduce your exhaust cans to Mr. Holesaw
6 - Dyno tune (requires Powercommander or similar)

You can do steps 1-5 for about $100 bucks tops. Dyno tune plus power commander is where the power and driveability comes in though.
