Well, I'm not defending the mayors decision but I've heard from a few people that live there, the whole bike week thing is chaos for the "residents". Long hours stuck in traffic, a few crazy bikers tear up stuff, the local police give everyone a hard time during the week....many factors are involved. I also heard that alot of the local vendors/shops even close down during bike week to avoid the hassle. What surprises me is that even with the few negatives that come from the rally, the mayor is willing to pass up the large amounts of $$$$ that will pass thru the town. :umm:

Since I live in S.C. I have been many times when I was riding Harleys. I can tell you that the problem is the week after which is "Black bike week" You know the one with all the Busa's there. Hey dont get me wrong I have nothing against any race !!!!!! I just think the whole crowd has a little bit more fun than the locals can handle. Once again please dont think Im racist Im just stating facts. Check out some of the vids on the web of "black bike week" Booty galore!!!!

Living here in North Carolina just an hour and a half or so from Myrtle Beach, I can't stand going there. It is too crowded and overated in my opinion. From all my times at Myrtle the cops are DICKS!!! and I was in Law Enforcement for 10 years.

Oh my goodness....booty galore? Now I understand why this is such a problem.....NOT! I have never been there, but I have been told that the amount of real trouble (fights, drunk riding, accidents, etc) is the same (or worse) during the Harley oriented week. but the amount of hassles is far more during black bike week. Now this may or may not be true.....just what I have been hearing the last couple of years.

where the F1 GP comes to albert park in melbourne its the same , traffic , tourists etc etc , but thats why we have it $$$$$ that it generates , tourism etc etc .
everyone has rights , right too ride there , right to close there business , right to keep it open and cash in on the event .
The coppers have to do there job , so if it means getting 20 extra in thats stiff shit for them .
here our clubs ( social and 1% ) have national runs where they converge on one state for there yearly meeting / get together and fun .
the coppers increase numbers , but make a presance , but dont interfear , and all goes well , even with the social clubs they do the same , it only cause tension when they try pushing limits , noise checks , roadblocks , etc .
if theres a booze bus set up and they run through then its all good , but when they pull everyone over just to breathalise them and no one else thats pure targeting and they get a response thats less than warm.
towns hear love national runs , they come out to mix with the clubs, the people , the ones who make the effort love it , the toffy nose stuck up arseholes who whinge and whine and sit back crying that there was bikes parked on the footpath or the lines were to long at the supermarket are the arses who are behind the complaints .
suck it up snob if you dont like it shift , because 95% of the locals , want it , need it and embrace it .
pubs , caravan parks , motels make more in one weekend than they make in 1 year in these small towns and communitys , some of them relie on it to keep there doors open .

I don't know that comment is starting to lean towards "prejudice" or "racist" First the comment about "you know the one with all the Busa's there" ...Busa's are not the problem they only go as fast as you twist the throttle and also the one about "Booty galore" sounds like the guy that cancel his subscription to 2wheel tuner because "You know they feature to many Blacks in their magazine" ...at both events Datoyna and Black Bike Week they show a lot of skin (Breast for Daytona and "Booty" for BBW) at both there are loud and drunken fights created by a few and ruining it for a majority. I think to single out one group over another when both are guilty to a certain extent is leaning toward prejudice...kind of like sportbikes vs. cruisers...we all should be vigilant in policing our own to promote a better image...but always with respect and without prejudice. ..we are already looked at as rowdies and lawbreakers by the world, do we start looking at each other with the same misconceptions?

Not offended, and please continue to post because we are all members and have different viewpoints that we can express and ponder and grow from thats what makes us unique. I know that sometimes choice of words can lead to different understandings that may not be the true intention. We continue to live in a culturely diverse world and only through open honest dialouge will we be able to understand and grow together. You are my Biker Brother and I respect and accept you for your perspective as I would hope you would do the same for me.

Been to BBW in the late 90's and it was nice ....but now I think alot of people that didnt really ride jumped on the (fashion bike) bandwaggon to be seen and show off...but aren't true Bikers.
just mt 2 cents.

I gotta post on this. I live in Columbia, SC.
What is this mayor nuts? The $$$$$ this brings in for the Myrtle area I would guess is (ahemm was) HUGE.
Was there a couple years ago. It was great, there were many manufacturers there with test rides on the latest motorcycles. I am guessing none of them will be there this year. I am also guessing vendor participation will be near nill. Yeah sure your cheap leather/tshirt vendors will be there. Your standard bars will be open for drinking too. I think the larger vendors won't bother to show because of the unknown. I was at biketoberfest there this past October and it was hardly worth the day trip.
Sucks, but I think they killed a decent rallyand I don't think it will ever be the same. I do at somepoint want to check out BBW. Just to experience. Not sure how it will fair through all this. So I may not get that chance either.
I like alot of aspects of motorcycling. I track my Busa. I specifically make trips to ride twisties on public roads multiple states away. Heck I even commute to work and back. I also like to kick tires, bench race and look at all different kinds of bikes over a beer or two. Weird I know :)
My 2.5 cents.

Even if that is true...so what? If they pay for bikes and mods with their own money, who cares how much they ride? Is there some law against being into appearance mods? And exactly who gets to define what a true biker is? Where do you draw the line? How much bling is too much bling? How many miles per year does one need to ride to be a true rider?
Look at it this way.....more posers leave an open road for.........the true riders. The rest of us aren't worthy.:smoke:

what I meant by that was ...there were alot of people who Don't know how to RIDE and they DONT follow the rules of the road trying to SHOW off and get hurt.Smoking and ridding....I seen it...drinking and ridding...i seen it ...so the cops see it too.Its not about mods and bling its about the bad apples. those damn rotton apples  Ive talked to alot of people that go every year and they will be heading to Orlando /Daytona/ Miami this year.Don't go where your not wanted.
