Temp sensor?
Which sensor do you mean? If you're sitting on the bike, are you talking about the doo-dad at 12 o'clock or at 9 o'clock?

True.
Moving the temp sensor from the air box to the intake duct prevents the sensor from sending a false signal to the ECU about ambient air temperature when the bike is operated at slow speeds in heavy traffic on hot days. Those conditions cause the air box to become excessively heated from the motor. The mismatch between the fueling supplied for a very high ambient air temperature and the reality of a much lower air temperature, causes poor running.
Living in the frozen north and travelling at high speeds and having not idled my bike in heavy Florida traffic on "cruise night" I have never experienced this phenomena.
