Fifth gear map. Seems to work the best for me.

while on the subject, anyone heard of the xtre causing harm to the engine?

I stumbled upon this the other day - 4th vs 5th gear mapping
http://www.hayabusa.org/forum/new-2008-busa-threads/98025-x-tre-issue.html
Questions for the guys running it (XTRE). Do you feel a surging at rpm's below 5k in any gear? I am sure it's in the mapping of the tre... Liquidysplit
Answer:
Change the settings at startup to 5th gear
I know you can set the x-tre to different gears and this may help or you may have it set to the wrong gear.
Mine is set for 5th gear and works great...FastLaneKen

I am running 5th. I just put mine on a couple weeks ago.I couldn't believe the difference in mid-range, I turned it off once just to make sure i wasn't loosing my mind. I would have to say dollar for dollar it is the best $$$ I have spent on my 08.

Wouldn't an X-tre only be usable on a bike with no PCIII, as in stock? Wouldn't it upset the new map used with the aftermarket exhaust?

From Heal Tech's site: http://www.healtech-electronics.com/
The PCIII was mapped in 4th gear, where the XTRE has no effect.
The PCIII adjusts the fuel map. The XTRE disables the timing retarder used in the lower gears (1-3).

Thanks for the info. Ok, so your basically increasing timing down low, yes? Would that cause pinging and thus engine damage especially if you didn't use premium fuel?

I dont understand if you wanted more umf wouldn't you just pull out the secondary thottle plates? besides its free. TRE makes little or no difference on the dyno. To my understanding it really only lets you go past 186mph and lets face it only a "FEW" riders go past 186. Friend of mine took his plates out on his 08. its a hand full on the street. Also picked up HP and torque in the lower range, but cant recall the numbers.

GenI the 1,2 and 3 gear are detuned and restrict your full potential , once you add the TRE the BUSA flies :oh yeah: and the governer is removed :oh yeah:.
