For those only interested in the numbers, here you go;

240# Rider, Bone Stock '08 Hayabusa with 1122 miles still wearing the paper plates. Only thing done after delivery was it's 1st oil change (cheapo dino oil). Famoso Raceway on September 19, 2008.
THIRD pass ever on this bike. Uncorrected = 10.330 @ 138.48

For those who want the full story, here it is;

Long time Kawasaki owner here. Amature drag racer (test & tune time runner for fun kinda guy). After much deliberation between a ZX-14 and the new Busa, I went to "The Dark Side" and bought a brand new Gen II about a month ago.

My previous fastest pass ever on a bike, was on my stock, '04 Kawasaki ZX-12R that, after about 100 passes at LACR, went to the "old" California Speedway and pulled off a 10.44 at about 135 mph.

So, I purchased the new bike, and started logging miles commuting and doing some fun canyon rides. I got up to 720 miles and did it's first oil change to some cheapo dino oil, just to get the break in oil out and get the first service out of the way. Didn't switch to nice Synthetic yet, as I want some more break-in miles on it first.

So, with the bike bone-stock, and about two weeks old, I head out to the last Test and Tune of the year at Famoso Raceway, outside Bakersfield Ca. I was a little concerned, as the bike is still tight, but it rolled past the 1k mile mark on the ride up there.

Very first pass on the bike, no burn out, and 44 psi in the tires. Having never even practiced an hard launch, or run it out to redline yet, I do a very soft "street start" as if leaving a stop light hard by just rolling it on.

First pass results in an 10.40 @ 135.91 ! No 60' times in that lane. But that's the quickest I've ever gone... ever.

Second pass, again, no burn out. Track prep is worse due to all the street cars running first. I go out, try to be more aggressive at the launch. This results in spinning the tire, lifting and then out of frustration, rolling back into it too hard and I get a big wheelie.
Result; 10.79 @ 133.4 Lousy 1.992 60' time.

Third run, I relax and just try to be smooth. Concentrate on the pass, not getting wrapped up in racing the guy next to me. This time, I have dropped the rear tire to 25 psi, and do a small burn out, so as to avoid wheel spin. I get out of the hole smooth and easy. Just rolling into it from about 5k. I get a decent tuck, stay in the groove and run each gear out to redline. BAM. Best run of the night! :banana:
1.825 60' , 6.79 at the 1/8, 8.70 at the 1000' mark, = 10.330 @ 138.48 !

Last pass of the night, I line up against a very modded '06 ZX-14, with a seasoned rider on it. He's running pipes, a power commander, front strapped and rear dogbones with roadrace "take offs". No telling what gear, but it was stock wheelbase. He admits to running "mid-10's" all night, and some guy said his best was a 10.5 for the night.

Hmmm. I'm thinking. I've already run a 10.3xx, I can get this guy!

So we line up, and go for it. Again, I get wrapped up in the race, and try too hard. Launch at a higher RPM, which results in a wheelie, then I lift, wheelie again and it's over.... he runs a 10.60 @ 135.2 to my 11.1 @ 133.2. Funny, he still only traps two mph better than me (?)

Anyway. There it is. No games, no BS, from a previous Kawasaki guy. Numbers are uncorrected for DA, and it was pretty warm and humid out.

Jeeeze. Some more break-in miles, some more saddle-time for me, and a few little things (synth oil, air filter, dial in the suspension) and I am sure it will be down to breaking into the 9's! This, with a big "average Joe" on board!

Amazing. I think I am now convinced that I purchased the right bike.
I'll attach the slips for those interested or think that I'm a phony.

Comments - Questions, anybody?

I like your honesty. I wish everybody would state the facts instead of what they wish they could run. At 40 years old im just pretending to be as good a rider as I was when I was 20. I love my bike and am getting better on it every day.

I like your honesty.

I too always look for "real world" facts and results, rather than the questionable magazine results and all the "what if", "shoulda", "woulda" "coulda" run this that and the other. More often than not, you get alot of BS, rather than accounts of actual events and experiences.

I am almost 42 myself, so I am no spring chicken. But, it's taken me 26 years of riding on the street to get where I am skill-wise, maturity-wise and only after alot of personal experience and trial and error. That, and a hell of a lot of luck. I am lucky to have survived this long, looking back. I wish I had an experienced Mentor to help me along, and had the intelligence to listen when those elders when they would have spoken.

Anyway, I hear alot of crazy drag times. Corrected for altitude, pro riders, and all sorts of things.

Motorcyclist Magazine posted in the December '07 issue a (corrected) time of 10.14 @ 142.54 . That sounds completely reasonable, and my times may have been right there, had I corrected my own numbers. Pretty honest reporting, IMHO.

I just wanted to provide my own account of how it went, and the numbers I pulled down. A more skilled, lighter rider could go faster. But, I am more than pleased with what it ran right out of the box.

I'm 52 and I know I don't ride like I did when I was 21. I had a R1 before I purchased the 08 busa and the R1 ran 10.39 @130. I have installed a full exhaust system 4" over swingarm and lowered the new Busa. I know this thing will go into the 9s. Its so much faster than the R1 but have not made it to the track yet. I'm expecting mid 9s or better. I have 500 miles on it and it fells like it's getting faster every time I take it out.
