I just bought an 06 limited pearl white with silver busa and love it:oh yeah:. I've noticed that when I put it in first gear at idle at a complete stop it klunks. As I take off and progress thru the gears 2 and 3 are progressively less klunky and after that it seems to shift smoothly. I am a new busa owner so I drive fairly conservatively shifting around 6 or 7000 rpm. I am not sure what is normal for this bike, any comments or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Thanks, I figured that it wasn't a big deal because the bike otherwise is excellent and I'm having a blast riding it. I've put over 1000 km's on it this weekend so far:scooter:.

The problem is in the second gear syncro. We have had 3 07 busa's come through with a clunking noise when you shift from first to second at high rpm and from third to second when the rpms are above 9000rpm.

Yeah, 1st gear is kinda clunky.

The 08's are much better. Makes my 06 Limited feel truck-like.

Going from neutral to 1st, at idle, a clunk is normal.

"Clunky" 1st to 2nd and 2nd to 3rd shifts at slow speeds, at low RPMs while using the clutch is normal. The ratio between 1st to 2nd and 2nd to 3rd is greater than the other gears. Your transmission has big chunks of metal turning at different speeds trying to engage each other, the greater the ratio the greater the difference in speed.

Try shifting at a higher rpm, preloading the shifter, and NOT using the clutch to smooth out the 1st to 2nd and 2nd to 3rd.

A clunky low rpm shift from 1st to 2nd does NOT mean you have a 2nd gear problem.

If, after you have completed the shift to second and the bike pops out of gear into a false neutral, or under hard acceleration it feels like the clutch is slipping but it only slips in 2nd or clunks at a high RPM, then you have a second gear problem.

I have 50thou KM on mine and have no transmission issues.

A hard life on the drag strip with a few missed ham fisted shifts plays havoc with stock motorcycle transmissions.

If you already know all this, well, all my ex's say I've never been able to shut the phuck up!!!:rofl::rofl:

cheers
