Engine identification

How do you identify an engine using the engine number? I have a guy delivering to me today what he says is a 2001 'busa. It has a choke and my research says 2001 was injected. Also, the paint scheme, purple/black, is only from 2004. I want to identify the engine on this bike before I take delivery and pay. Any help is much appreciated.

All busas 99-07 have FAST IDLE switch left side controls, pics would help and your VIN# on your frame and or ownership should have the year model?

The owner has the pink slip with that info but I'm wondering if the engine is indeed a hayabusa engine since the color scheme already does not match. I'm gonna' check the engine number with the title. Where, exactly, is that located?

If the number does not match, I want to be able to identify it and decide right there to purchase or not. He should have been here 6 minutes ago with the bike. I'm still trying to figure this out.

Is there a way to instantly identify a hayabusa engine?
