Hi to all.
I own a repair shop for Suzuki bikes. I recently had a customer with Suzuki Hayabusa GSX1300R and is a Drag racer. He want to make some modifications for better performance so i need some advice from more experienced racers.
1) He has a Power Commander installed so I need a good map for 1800m (1,1185mile) drag race.
2) He has Yoshimura full exhaust and K&N air filter.
3) He want to change the front sprocket (the one at the engine not the one at the wheel) from 18 to 17 teeth.
4) He want to install the quick shifter from DynoJet.
5) The driver is 120kg (264 lbs).

So any suggestions?

Thank you in advance

You indicated that he has an 18 tooth F sprocket, so I assume this is a GenII Busa. Correct?

If so, I would recomend a gear combination of 16/43 or 16/44. This will allow you to use more of 5th gear. If you go with the 17 tooth, you will only be just shifting into 5th at that weight.

Shifter is key, but I personally prefer air shifters with on-board compressors vs. electric or CO2. Matter of preference and money.

Lowering and lengthening is most critical. Links and straps for front and rear are essential for drags and are cheap. Brock's...

Extending a GenII beyond 3" while its lowered is difficult without destroying your tail section. Depending on how serious he is, you can get extensions or swingarm with a stretched tail section. At that point its a comprimised street bike.

Finally get a good tire. The stock one is fine for street use but useless at the strip. Shinko's are cheap and work well on the street and the strip.

I agree with Draco,

I have an 06..I went the 1 down on front, 2 up on back...I hit the trap at the top of fourth. I lowered mine an 1 1/2 front and back. Get an EK ZZZ chain aswell, the stock will stretch every time you go out to drag....ZZZ, havent touched it since the first adjustment. I have at least 80 launches with no need to adjust.
I dont strap mine, but put in the Traxxion AK20 cartridges with 1.1 springs. They are set up not to come off the ground.
I also put in the Brocks "Ultra Mod" and "Cushion kit" for the clutch...well worth the few $$.
I did put on a Velocity racing +6 swingarm as well...anything over 6 and your more apt to break loose. But remember with extension, especially at the riders weight, you must improve the rear shock!! I had Hyperbike redo my stock one. They re spring to riders weight and riding style, plus revalve and recharge the shock.I am thoroughly impressed with it.
The air shifter is a must for consistency. I just ordered the Muzzy high pressure system, and the 2 stage launch master. Will be installing in a couple of weeks when it gets here.
A shift light may be an asset...can't speak from experience as I dont have one....yet.
The shinko's are a must. I couldn't hook up properly with even Corsa 3's, but the Shinko 003 soft are amazing for traction.
Lastly...tell him to coat the underside of the undertail, swingarm, etc with a film of Vaseline before draggin...that damn rubber comes off WAY easier...trust me!!!

Cheers,

Tony

he may be a great bike mechanic with his own shop, but he may just need some advise on how to set up a hayabusa for the track/drag strip which may not be his area of expertise?

Actually I'm electronics engineer  and this is the first Hayabusa that is in my shop.

The one single mod i would reccomend that i had to think twice about on mine but turned out great in the long run was an air shifter.

If he is racing over 1 mile tracks, he will need some sort of TRE for his bike too. Otherwise, he will hit 186mph(300km/h) and stop accelerating.

I'm with lee on that airshifter. It improves your e.t.'s tremendously, and allows you to worry about other things while getting down the track. If he is getting serious once you buy a power commander, ditch that yoshimura exhaust and get a brocks, instead of the k&n get a "race" only bmc, he'll need a top triple clamp to get the front forks lowered, and a set of lowering links. If he wants the swingarm extended I would recommend getting an extended arm over just putting extensions. And buy a high quality chain to go with it. Just my 2 cents.

Strap the front end. 16/42 gearing. Shinko or other suitable drag tire. 40 shot. Maybe bolt on swing arm extensions and a new chain.

I'm kinda partial to shifting myself, even if it is slower than an air or electric shifter.
