Every recall applied to my 99 Hayabusa and it was Suzuki's 1st Cam Chain Tensioner recall that actually failed just 3,000 miles later and locked my engine when my valves and pistons said "Howdy do" to each other while at an idle. It pretzeled the #4 intake valves, cracked both their valve guides, and bent the #3 intake valves as well. All this damaged resulted due to the 90 degree bend in the CCT spring breaking off as it would eventually in the OEM provided CCT.

Here's a picture of the 1st recall CCT and its broken spring...

Here's a close-up picture of the oil ratchet CCT mechanism that proved reliably and was standard OEM equipment on 2001 through 2007 Hayabusas...

The new oil ratchet CCT mechanism required its own rear cam chain guide be installed. Here's a picture of the new CCT and its rear guide (left side of picture) and the 1st recall CCT and its original OEM rear cam chain guide. Notice the 3 pink dots on the 1st recall CCT housing. The OEM CCT only had one pink dot and the fact they they arrived on the showroom floor already marked indicates Suzuki was already expecting trouble and this was the quick and easy way of determining which CCT was installed...

Here's the head of my Hayabusa with the bent #4 intake valves. Keep in mind that this collision between valves and pistons occured while idling at a stop sign. I had just come to a stop when all hell broke loose inside. Just imagine the destruction had the CCT spring failed while doing 160 MPH the day before while 60 miles from home.

Where it failed was only 6 miles from home, so it was a 6 mile push home in Mid August heat (97 to 98 degrees), but I wasn't about to leave my beloved steed behind. Three hours later (and drenched in sweat from head to toe just 20 minutes into the push home), I finally arrived home and couldn't believe some of the hills that I managed to push that monolithic hulk all the way up and over. I thought for sure the last hill was going to bring on a heartattack. By that time, my legs were as rubbery as Gumby...:oh yeah:
