Both bikes stretched and lowered. 08 had an airshifter, 06 NOT...just me left foot.
It was fun...and a bit frustrating for the fella on the 08...*snickers*.
Good day had by all. I wonder how his drive was back to Calgary?

The guy on the 08 may have a really shitty map as well....might be detuning his bike. He did as I said earlier, have his engine come apart on Sunday all over the track...so maybe he had other issues.
I have four buds here in town that I race against at the 1/4 that have zx14's, and none of them have dropped below 10 seconds...altitude here is against us.
Even when the Nationals are here in July, the top fuel fellas are in the mid/high 4's.
I totally agree with Ty....its all about the 60'...and mine is in much need of repair.

yeah i noticed you use more of a motocross start 1 foot down. and you pick right up quick. every try leaving both feet down with reverse shift pattern? my buddy foot shifts like that and kicks ass! jason britton a stunt rider did a 10.2 first time down the strip then ran 10.08 this was @ california speedway. elevation unknown ...andrew trevitt not a drag racer went9.68@ 148.3mph and 9.73 @146.6 on the 14.. and 9.741 @ 149.31 on a gsxr 1000 at hondas proving center of california altitude 2070 ft.. and drumroll.... times were "corrected" using nhra correction factor to resemble a run at sea level.. i am guessing your track does not use this. if not your times are impressive and i'm a jackass..lol

No way are they corrected, the trap speed shows it. I knew something was up with the elevation, otherwise he'd have serious power issues....
I'm wondering what the K8 owner did to his bike to cause it to come apart...?

wow to run in the 11,s he must have not had to much practice at drag racing, or he couldnt hook up for squat!! my 03 600 zx6rr ran quicker than that. or like someone stated that he really had major problems with the bike.

there were many people cracking the 9's with only 3 runs a piece and all were in the 140mph hour range. i know little about drag racing. i would love to try. i got many holeshots racing motocross..i have raced friends on by busa but i just launched soft then by the time my shiftlight went on i was leading and objects in mirror disappeared ..lol

with drag racing thier are so many factors that make a fast run , altitude, tempeture. pressure, humidity ect all play a big roll, i mean some strips are fast and some you just arnt going to get a good E.T. no matter what. it takes a really strong bike to get in the nines if you launch soft, usually you really got to get a decent 60 ft to go in the nines, i cant waite to see if the new bike goes in the 9,s with a soft launch. now that would be impressive
Cali Badazz !!!
05-07-2008, 09:53 PM
if i was at the strip i would try to launch as hard as i could!! lol.. i wanna go but the closest track just closed. i just wanna top my busa out.. that would be a rush. you LSR 200mph busa riders have my respect too:thumbs up:

Hey Falconer,
Ya tweaked my interest, what exactly is a reverse shift pattern? I tried leaving both feet down, but found that I was into second before I could get my foot up too shift.

It's when you flip the shift lever so the pattern is 1-up & 5-down. In stead of having to put your foot under for the first shift, you just keep pressing down on the lever. Some people find it easier that way.
It started out on the road race bikes because on left handers they couldn't get there foot under to shift very good without dragging. With the foot on top, it wasn't in the way... ;)

Get your self an air shifter or an auto shift, just pin wide open the throttle and let the Busa shift it self, time saving, get away from foot shifting,

i know alot of you dislike the custom sportbike scene i am among you but 2wheel tuner magazine has alot of drag parts in it too. pingel airshifters rev boxes quick shifters where you can shift at wot..nos etc.. ever wonder how those guys go halfway down the track with their feet down? air shifter..just push the button and blam! the reverse shift pattern question was answered. some people just love to foot shift.. i like to tell my buddy he just loves getting beat! cuz those airshifters or just a quickshifter is good for atleast a tenth.. thats how much he gets beat by almost everytime..lol

I have just read this entire thread. I have seen guys in Mississippi run some amasing times on the new busa. I have a K7 1000 stretched and lowered with a two brothers slip on and I have ran 9.6s. Although I do launch at like 8000 RPMs. Now I am 6'5 215 lbs. So yall tell me what the problem is.

Just wondering how much tire pressure are you running in the rear?? I run a Shinko 003s on my bike with 8 lbs of pressure in the rear. The front lowering brackets and straps help alot also. I also have a MPS airshifter on my 1k and it didnt cost that much. Only $299. It comes with everything you need, including an air bottle and an onboard compressor. The auto shifter box is like $199 by itself I think. With me being so tall, it was a hassle for me to get my feet up there in time to shift to second. I have wired my pass button to be my shift button. So I just launch and hit the pass button. Lets get those times down.

ET Depends on many things, including altitude, track preparation, weight, suspension set-up and mostly "skill". Simmo ran 9.7's on his stock length and slammed 99 Busa. He's running 9.3's and 9.4's consistently on his 08, though this is all STOCK LENGTH. He's an amateur. We just get out there and have fun. He's NOT a professional with a team behind him.
Also, the track we're running on isn't the best. Last week on my stock 99 Busa I was getting wheel spin through 2nd, 3rd AND 4th! There are times when it's prepared well, but still nothing compared to some of the tracks in the US I've heard about...

got busa "I" was trying to say his budy is kicking ass and should be racing pro. your comment about 8 seconds confuses me. if people are going in the 8"s on stock wheelbase and basic mods they too should quit their day job and go racing.. so what was the "point" you were trying to make to me? i have never seen a k8 timeslip in the 8"s and i would love to see that! i'm not saying it can't be done. schnitz went a 9.27 on a k8 with basic mods and isn't he like one of the best out there right now? anyway guys that fast should do it for a career. i would but i'm old and slow.

Okay, Cool! :thumbs up:
It sounded like a few people were unaware of the times some guys are running. I just wanted to make sure everyone knew that Brock's bike went 8's the first month out with the basic bolt-ons complete. http://www.busanation.com/forum/showthread.php?t=605
Since then several other riders have done it as well. 9.0-9.3 seems to be a pretty common time with the new 08. Stretched and setup more for drag they are going even quicker of course. I don't know if I'd quit my day job running 8's or low-9's but it's def possible. I should have my 08 out next week for some practice so we'll see how it goes all stock before I do the common mods. I went 9.8 on my stock 03 so I expect more from the 08 since it makes 20rwhp more. Then again I'm over 200lbs. so who knows.... :whistling:

what i mean is that that is serious skill.. your not gonna make much money racing a semi stock busa but my point is the guys that can do that can run winning times on the bikes that do earn big winnings. going low nines on a busa that has only a pipe and a pc is getting the most out of what your riding and guys like that are the guys that can get a ride. the thought of going into the 8's on a k8 with no engine mods gives me a woody! it is not an easy bike to ride inmo.. hats off to all you drag racers. i never been in a race that lasted only 9 seconds.

These bikes are fast regardless of altitude, heat, or the size of your arse. My 08 is stretched +7 and lowered. It has a pipe and PC. Thats it. I run cheapo 87 octane pump gas. I weigh 200 lbs. Even 18/43 stock gears. I have been working it this summer, but I'm now consistently running:
1.45 - 1.48 shorts
3.86 - 3.90 330"
5.87 - 5.92 1/8 mi
9.09 - 9.13 1/4 mi
152 - 153 mph
These bikes just plain screw. The chassis is set right now that I just bring the revs up to 5k and then instantly bury the throttle on the last light. I used to worry about what I was going to dial. The 08 is so consistent that I just run the number.
I took the clutch out after about 70 passes last week. The fibers looked practically new, and the steels were flat and only slightly blued. The Kawasaki guys at the track were practically in tears. Try 70 passes on a ZX10.
Suzuki did a great job on this one. With the gas crisis the way it is, and with the engineering resources going towards scooters and such, this could be the fastest bike ever made.
Now if I can just get that first 8 second pass..
