In production class, I can't run an aftermarket exhaust. In addition to that, I cannot make any visible mods to the bike nor can I enlarge the exhaust outlet diameter.

I took a stock header and improved (hopefully) the center X section. I lopped off the stock part and built a new section using larger diameter pipe with mandrel bends for improved flow. I re-used the connection fixtures off the stock center section so it bolts up to the stock mid-pipes and you don't even know I was there once the bodywork is on.

It cost me about $50 bucks in tubing and welding supplies. Probably less.

We'll see what it dynos at. I did a lot of exhaust research while doing this and found out that exhaust is pretty tricky to improve...

First Land Speed Race is in two weeks...counting down.

It's kind of like an H-pipe on the fox body Mustangs......looking forward to seeing the results but I think the main downfall of the stock headers is the actual diameter of them. Let us know how they do V8 !

Funny you mention the Fox H-pipe... I used to have a Fox Mustang (86GT with T-tops, 5.0HO and 5spd). The H-pipe was the inspiration for this hahahaha. I sure miss my Mustang....

I definitely wanted to address the pipe diameter but if I got into making larger diameter primary pipe, I'm into a whole header re-do and I didn't know if my fab skills were up to that task. I'm still working with a hacksaw so it takes a L O N G time to get one angle right. Like a LLLLL OOOOOOO NNNNNNN GGGGGG time :)

The H-pipe I made is about .130" larger ID than the stocker which I calculated out to about a 16% increase in area. Plus the stock header has all kinds of junk wrong with it inside that section. I bet the area increase is probably double or more in some places.

Of course area doesn't necessarily equal flow so..... we'll see what happens.

Should hear a slight difference in the exhaust cadence by going from the x-pipe to the H-pipe. Good job on the fabrication.

Yes, it's a little bit different. It REALLY sounds good without cans on it. I'm working on some more can improvements too so I can let all that music out!

I won't have time or cash to dyno it before the first LSR next week so I'm going to run the header and fatten it up with the power commander and hope for the best (no A/F tune).

The coolest part is now that it's all sprayed black and covert, with the fairing on, you can't even see that I've been in there. It looks 100% stock.

Do you have any news about this mod?
