I'm putting my bike back to standard trim for the arrival of my new K8 on Wednesday - has anyone tried a TRE on the K8 yet or does it not need one as I believe it has variable mapping, so a TRE won't work or am I talking bollox?

I was thinking the same thing with the 3 mode map switch? I wouldnt think you require a TRE?, I will be watching and researching this, I know MIMIC or NUKEDOG will know this.:umm:

It will require a new TRE. When one is made when you install it you will loose the gear indicator. Also it is not 3 different maps, it is only 3 settings for much the secondary butteflies will open.

Txs Bro for the clarification:thumbs up:, I thought the mode select runs an A,B,C Map mode? you have more info on this?

Just what more specifically this 3 mode switch does?

It tells the secondarie butterflies how far to open.

A they open all the way.

B they only open part way until you get to I thik it's 96% throttle.

C they open part way the whole time.

Hope this helps you undestand.

:thumbs up:, I would think that the A/F ratio would change? and hense why I thought that the 3 mode select changed mapping and or corrected the A/F, Thanks for the clarification and YES! lol, I do understand now, Hey i just ride them:oh yeah: and have a little know how in some areas.

TRE HELP!!

I've finally got round to fitting the TRE off my K5 onto my K8

Real easy to get to on the K8...

Remove front seat pad, undo front tank bolts, support the raised tank and you'll see the triangular connector on the right side of the engine. Unclip connector and fit TRE.

The only problem I'm not sure of now is a technical question - The bike starts ok but now there is the F1 light on and when I change gear it shows each gear correctly in the display which I didn't think it was supposed to do.

Will I cause any damage if I run with the F1 light on - is that normal if fitting the old style TRE?
Bear in mind I only want to run one or 2 race events this year, otherwise it will be on the road 95% of the time.... I don't want to spend $150+ on something I'll rarely use.

I've put it back to standard just in case and the bike starts fine with no F1 light on and gears showing correctly...

you have 2 connectors in that first pic. You plugged the one with the pink connector right?

The pink wire goes into the rearward 4 pin connector . The 3 pin only goes one way up so it can't be fitted wrong, but no pink wire - bike started fine and gears showed as normal but with the F1 light on - I was only standing still and tried up to 4th gear, I didn't ride it in case I did any damage.

Looking at my 1st picture of the 2 block connectors, I've looked at the K8 workshop manual and it says it is the 3 pin switch coupler that is the gear position coupler and the 4 pin is the throttle position sensor coupler.

weird, the 3 pin has the pink wire on the gen I

Yes that's right and it's on the other side of the bike too..... I'm sure someone will point out I've been a complete arse and plugged it into the wrong connector :roll eyes:

Copy/paste from manual Gi-Pro w/ATRE
Locate the gear position sensor connector; it's located on the left side of the bike. The connector is off-white and has three wires: blue, pink and black/white.

If it's on the left of the K8, what did I connect the TRE to on the right side? :umm:

Just to throw in some more confusion: The K8 is not restricted in 1st & 2nd gear as was the Gen1, is this correct?

The TRE will plug in on the left side of the 08. The one on the right side will give the F1 fault code. There is another on the left side that goes to the fuel gauge. All have the same type connector. The one you want will have a pink wire coming out of it and is toward the rear of the engine compartment on the left amongst the big wiring harness. When you install it, if it's installed correct you will have 0 in neutral and all 5s while in gear. If you hook up to the one that goes to the fuel gauge it'll blow the transistor in the TRE. I know I blew mine but, I used the connectors to make my own.

steve i ran my gen 1 tre for about 2 days and my bike wouldnt start removed it and fired up. may have been just the tre but i wont try it again to find out. i have not noticed a bad timing prob with the 08 yet. i was just trying to remove the top speed limiter. you may look into the gps mod. i ordered mine from boost by smith and havent installed it yet. just my 2 cents worth

Thanks very much BRKNWNG :thumbs up: - I have to say the workshop guide manual is a bit vague as in one sentence it shows a picture of the 3 + 4 block connectors and is talking about the STPS, then in the very next sentence it talks about the Gear Position Sensor - it doesn't actually say in the section regarding the GPS where the connector actually is...well I couldn't see it anyway - Asshole of the day prize goes to Skomansteve !! :umm:

So you finally got it plugged right with no FI light?

Yes, it now works as described - showing it's always in 5th gear and as you can see in the video you can tell if the TRE is working when you pull in the clutch lever and the revs rise slightly - Only takes @ 10 minutes to install and remove (3 pin plug with black/blue+pink wires).............just what I want for the Woodbridge race weekend in May :thumbs up:

Installed my TRE-007 from Ivans Performance and works a treat - really does sort out the snatchy throttle responce when backing off - I have aloways had litre bikes with no gear position light nayway so stuck in 5th gear doesnt bother, just listen to the motor when you are riding is enough for me.

I have used Ivans products for a few years now and I think they are one of the best on the market - besides we cant get half the shit you guys get in the states and Ivan always comes to the party for me.

K8 has restrictions in 1-4 qnd 6th speed limited, TRE eliminates this and really does give better throttle responce.

Fited in 2mins - plug left side of bike into fuel sensor harness, no removing anything except proping the tank up for 1min easy-as

Happy camper and now waiting on my new Microns for some noise and grunt!

i try the gipro in 5th mode and 4th gear mode , i hink the better is in 4th mode (more power) .

When Ivans tre in used what gear is emulated 4 or 5 on the K8?

busakid

When using Ivans you neutral and then 5th gear in all gears - you get used to it, especailly if you have never relied on a gear position anyway like myself - does smooth the bike out heaps.

The articles that I read say that the busa2 is not restricted except in 6th gear

Well I guess it depends on which articles and where the information comes from - anyway I didnt get the TRE to unrestrict the first 5 gears, it was to smooth out the throttle reponce and to de-restrict 6th gear where the top end power is, I wil still be putting on a power commander (another proven product I have used in every bike I have owned in the last 10years) for fueling and hopefuly find a couple of horses as well when I get the new Microns on.
As in all performance products - decide what you want from them not what you think everyone else is getting :-)

it is still restricted in 6th gear with the A-TRE have a look, i have the A-TRE and wil install the X-tre to see if it is better

It's restricted. All the normal mods work fine. Mine ran 206.6 with the GPS modded 1-2-3-4-5-5

I have also run it with a home made TRE and that worked fine too. Also, Brock broke 200 with a TRE for the early bikes on his 08'.

All the normal stuff works.

There is a new X-tre out that will not effect the gear indicator on the new k8 busas

Heal tech electronics ltd. Has it

I've ordered the x-tre to go with my new one (when it eventually gets here). We'll see how well it does?

I put a ivans TRE on my B-King and it went from 154 mph on the dyno 1st run to 193 mph after putting ivans TRE. which it just had a speed limiter on it in 5th and 6th gear, it would run faster in 4th gear than it would in 5th or 6th . and the gear indicater now shows 4th gear all the time i guess the TRE fools it into thinking its in 4th all the time or so i was told.
