I was talking to a friend that is a bike mechanic and I told him that I was after a meaner sound for my 08 but don't have the $ right now to buy a full exhaust system. He mentioned that we could cut the cat and he could weld in some exhaust pipe and that should make a better, meaner sound. He said he could put the o2 sensor on the new customs mid pipe and it should all work fine. Any thoughts?
Also, by doing this, will the new EFI system on the busa adjust itself or am I going to have to buy a power commander? I would like to be able to keep the adjustable power modes on the bike, but I am afraid that it may run too rich.

I cut the mid pipes on my 05 but it dosen't have the o2 sensor on the mid-pipe , like the 08 does.
Warchild has a write up about the 08 fuel system here....

I actually tried taking off the stock slip ons and the bike sounded incredibly loud. I am just going to get some slips ons. I thought that having the cat removed would improve the sounds, but now I know it is the stock slip-ons.
thx

you could do like i did for my 07 and gut the silencer pipe out of the stock tubes. makes the bike sounds much better. because i like your self dont have the money for a new pipe becasue of my stupid accident now i have to get her repainted instead.

Some facts...
A) Warchild is incorrect with his assesment of the K8 EFI system, First of all the K8 uses a 4-wire narrow band sensor for the O2. These are inexpensive and only "accurate" at 14.7 A/F ratios, IE converter effiicient A/F ratio. Neither good for power or fuel economy. Our K8's are closer to 1988 than 2008 automotive technology, very behind the times. Relying on a crap narrow band sensor for fuel correction is a bad choice.
B) I gutted the cats on my K8, a MAJOR pain in the ass, 4 layers of steel, with the last three being stainless. Give Suzuki some engineering credit, the cat area to inlet pipe ratio is equivilent. Stated another way, the cats are not that much of a restriction, notice they are rather larger than inlet pipe by a substantiual amount. I gutted the Cats on my K8 because I burned my hand on them 1/2 hour after a ride, When the rest of the pipe was cold, also the wife doesn't complain about the heat anymore while we are riding. Also cut a "few" bypass holes in the stock muffler to relieve the excessive back pressure. One more tidbit, "back pressure" is NOT good for making HP, Tuned length exhaust is the secret...

How might one go about doing such a thing?
